After a three year hiatus, I’m revitalizing Booked.
For people who’ve been incarcerated, a booking mugshot might be the first and only “professional” headshot they’ve ever had. This project aims to change that. Does a different view of ourselves change (or validate) the way we see ourselves? Can a single photo affect the way we move through the world?
How it works
Portrait sessions are free.
Subjects will receive a small collection of their photos for free.
Subjects may use their photos however they would like.
The photos will be featured online and in a gallery one day, but they will not be sold by me, the photographer.
The subject must agree to share their name (but it does not have to be their legal name), as well as how many years they were incarcerated. They must allow me to share that information in the places I display their image. However, they are not required to share the reason they were incarcerated.
I do not discriminate against any conviction.
I’m currently seeking funding to cover the cost of printing and travel. Please contact me if you would like to provide that funding.
